EDP endorses BCSD Portugal’s Charter of Principles

Signed by more than 30 Portuguese companies, the document offers guidelines for good business management

EDP has signed up to BCSD Portugal’s Charter of Principles, a document that establishes the principles that are the guidelines for good business management. The Charter of Principles aims to create a voluntary framework tailored to companies of various sizes in order to encourage the massification of sustainable management practices based on six principles: (1) Legal Compliance & Ethical Conduct, (2) Human Rights, (3) Employment Rights, (4) Prevention, Health and Safety, (5) Environment and (6) Management.

By endorsing the Charter of Principles, EDP recognizes that sustainable business management is a competitive factor. At the same time, EDP is inviting its suppliers to subscribe to the Charter of Principles, thus promoting the principles of sustainable management along its value chain.

The BCSD Portugal’s Charter of Principles is inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work of the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Global Compact. It also encourages the reporting of non-financial information by companies that are not yet directly covered by Decree-Law no. 89/2017 of July 28 regarding the obligation of annual disclosure of non-financial information and information on diversity by certain large companies.
