EDP presents Conciliar program at Work and Life Design conference

Wednesday 21, February 2018

The conference titled 'Work and Life Design - Best Practices, Best Results' is an initiative created by Executiva (link: https://executiva.pt/), an online platform targeted at business women, female entrepreneurs, female managers, and women who value their career. It was held at AESE Business School on February 21.

João Tavares, Human Resources Assistant Director at EDP, was one of the speakers and presented EDP's Conciliar Program. With initiatives focusing on different employee profiles within the Group, this program (available in Portugal, Spain and Brazil) promotes balance and conciliation between the various aspects of employees' lives - family, professional and social -, thereby contributing to an improvement in their quality of life.

The company's investment in work-life balance issues was formalized in 2008 with the launch of Conciliar, and was eventually recognized in 2013 with the Family-Responsible Company certification, issued by Fundación Más Familia.

In Portugal the program is currently composed of 18 measures, which aim to cover not only the various stages in the employee's life, but also the various segments and generations within the organization, while also focusing on the geographical decentralization of such measures.

In 2017 the Conciliar Program directly impacted more than 1,600 people, including 175 parents and 34 grandparents, as well as 176 employees' children and grandchildren. Examples of initiatives include Labor Gymnastics, which benefits about 3,300 people in the buildings where it is implemented, and the Conciliar Discounts platform, which offers opportunities created by external partners and now boasts over 4,200 subscribers.

The program's assessement is highly positive, and every year EDP conducts a country-wide survey where it asks for employees' opinions on the utility and adequacy of Conciliar's measures. The 2017 results show that overall, 96% of employees considered the measures useful, while 84% consider them to be adequate to their profile. This survey also allows the organization to strengthen and change existent measures or create new ones, always adapted to the different segments and generations within the EDP Group.
