Tuesday 16, June 2020

A study carried out by the OnStrategy consulting company values the EDP brand above €2.5 billion, which consolidates it as the most valuable brand in Portugal and the 14th among utilities worldwide.

EDP was considered the most valuable Portuguese brand, according to a study by OnStrategy consulting company, which values it at 2.571 billion euros. With a value almost 8% above the last year's evaluation and a rating of AA+, EDP stands out as the most valuable among 25 national brands in various sectors, such as energy, banking, retail or telecommunications. EDP leads the Portuguese brands ranking with higher financial value, an assessment derived from the combination of the expected and obtained financial results, which represents a robust indicator of brand strength.

The consulting company OnStrategy released their annual study today on the Most Valuable Portuguese Brands, the result of an analysis in accordance with the ISO 20671 (evaluation of strategy and strength) and ISO 10668 (financial evaluation) certification standards, which analyzes several attributes associated with the dimensions of emotional relationship, reputation, experience, way of operating in the market, employees and health and financial results.

“EDP's reputation has been built over the years based on coherent discourse and behavior, aligned with the group's various strategic axes. EDP has been a pioneer in the energy sector, seeking to be the leader of energy transition, but also to give special importance to other key areas for consumers, such as support for music and sports. We have not awakened to this reality just now, as we have been present in music events for 14 years, in athletics for over 20 years and in surfing for more than 10, always in a sustainable way and with controlled costs. It is this consistency that consumers also value in brands ”, says Paulo Campos Costa, EDP's Global Brand, Marketing and Communication Director.

The study on the Most Valuable Portuguese Brands was developed for the 50 national companies with greater relevance and dimension, and was based on a dynamic and integrated approach that includes a financial analysis of economies, industries and businesses, as well as an analysis of the brands' strength, which then translates into the determination of their financial value. The methodology used by OnStrategy in the financial evaluation of brands is named Royalty Relief, preferred by most analysts, auditors and courts, to use in the analysis of sources external to the brands and companies.

Earlier this month, the 2020 Brand Finance study was released, where EDP went up two places and is now the 14th most valuable brand worldwide in the utilities sector. Among the 50 energy companies from different countries, EDP is also the only Portuguese company in this ranking.

The value of the EDP brand continues to grow in line with its own development and expansion in the 19 locations where it is present. With a strong focus on innovation and renewable energy and a total commitment to sustainability and energy transition, the company constantly seeks to reinforce its value and its role in society.
