Churky wins EDP Live Bands in Portugal
Since its inception, the competition, which is now present in Portugal, Brazil and Spain, has already given 6,500 bands the opportunity to jump from the garage to the stage.
Churky wins the 5th edition of EDP Live Bands in Portugal. Diogo Rico Rodrigues, a Portuguese singer, songwriter, guitar player and music producer, received the jury's consensus in the big final, fought by nine contestants last Friday, May 18, at Espaço L (LX Factory) in Lisbon.
With this victory, Churky, as he is best known, secured the right to perform at the NOS Alive'18 festival in Lisbon and at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid. In addition to these two performances, he also won the opportunity to record an album for Sony Music.
Diogo Rico Rodrigues will thus join the band Sound Bullet, the winner of the 3rd edition of EDP Live Bands in Brazil. Yet to be determined is the winner of the 1st edition of EDP Live Bands in Spain, which will be announced on June 9, during the big final to be held at Teatro Barceló in Madrid.
EDP Live Bands is a project that seeks to find new music talent and launch garage bands into the limelight. With five editions in Portugal and three in Brazil, the project reached new heights this year with its expansion into Spain, where EDP operates since 2001.
Overall, the initiative has attracted about 6,500 musical acts, to whom EDP Live Bands has given the opportunity to make the jump from the garage to the stage. Such massive participation shows the importance the project has been gaining in the cultural scene. Equally noteworthy is the increase in the quality of the bands competing in each new edition.
