14 partners from 6 European countries have joined this project, which is funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program. With a €15 million budget, SENSISBLE tests energy storage and management technologies with the aim of providing the distribution grid with tools that enable optimized management, in situations with greater distributed renewable output. Simultaneously, the project implements innovative business models, taking into account the energy flexibility management of commercialization companies' customers.

With a strong demonstration component (led by EDP's New R&D - Centre for New Energy Technologies), SENSIBLE is developing field projects in Portugal, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The Portuguese pilot project in Valverde (Évora) covers about 250 customers and involves the deployment of photovoltaic micro-generation systems (for 10% of the population), energy management systems, smart batteries and water heaters, making it possible not only to generate energy but also to manage electricity consumption efficiently. Equipped with state-of-the-art smart networking equipment, the distribution grid was also endowed with storage systems and an advanced automation mechanism.

The SENSIBLE Project was recently awarded by the European Commission (EC) with the status of 'Flagship Project' in the area of Energy Innovation. This distinction will allow the project and our partners to attend several key EC events, which include the presentation of SENSIBLE to heads of state and government during COP24 in Katowice.
