Monday 22, May 2017

The winning band will perform at NOS Alive and Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, and will record a CD with Sony Music

A band of five young people from Alcobaça, Plastic People was chosen by the jury as the winner of the 4th edition of EDP Live Bands. From the more than 320 bands that entered the competition, nine finalists were chosen to perform at the grand finale which took place on Friday, 19 May, at the LX Factory.

More than 1,200 bands have already featured in the competition’s four editions, three of which have already performed for thousands of people. It was therefore with great excitement that the finalists looked forward to the selection of the grand winner of this 4th edition of EDP Live Bands Portugal.

The prize was enticing: To perform at NOS Alive and Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, as well as recording a CD with Sony. All more than enough reasons for this to be seen as one of the best talent competitions in Portugal.

With a full programme, the bands start the day with a career management workshop in which they are given some tips by the members of the competition jury and clarify any doubts on how they should conduct themselves in the music world. These were very constructive moments for the bands to get to know each other and prepare their performance for the grand finale.

The afternoon was taken with band rehearsals for the final performance before the qualified panel of judges composed of representatives of the partners of this project. The jury included representatives from EDP, Everything is New, Sony, Antena 3, Fnac and Sábado magazine.

As soon as the doors opened, the hall filled with friends, relatives and the general public which was drawn by the good music that resounded in this LX Factory venue. The bands gave it their best and tried to convince the jury that they deserved this opportunity. After each band played its two numbers, it was time for the verdict. The jury made its decision and it was unanimous that the simple musical style of the band Plastic People made it the winner. The jury was satisfied that this band, which mixes Punk, Rock, New Wave and is inspired by Iggy Pop and David Bowie, was ready to perform on great stages for thousands of fans.

The success of this competition in Portugal led EDP to make it international, taking it to Brazil last year, a country where EDP is present and has a high musical profile. The two editions of the Brazilian competition have hosted more than 3,000 bands and this edition’s winner was chosen on 6 May last. The choice fell on the band Gelpi and, in addition to recording a CD with Sony Music, it will travel to Portugal to perform at NOS Alive.
