Environmental management at EDP Production

EDP has been implementing environmental management systems in its hydro and thermal plants in Portugal since the 1990s. These systems make it possible to manage and control - in a structured, systematic and effective manner - all environmental aspects related to the company's activities, comply with all legal obligations, and improve the company's overall environmental performance.

Certification of environmental management systems by an accredited third party is the formal recognition of a strict and effective environmental management. Most hydro and thermal plants are still registered with the EMAS (EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme), which translates into higher standards of compliance and outstanding environmental management.

The Environmental Declarations have a validity of three years (with two updates), the period following the renewal of the registration and the date to be considered for the beginning of the cycle is the Environmental Declaration validation - you can see below the Declarations in the current cycle.

EDP's hydro and thermal production in Portugal boasts five environmental management systems that have been certified according to NP EN ISO 14 001:2015: the systems of the four operational headquarters (Douro, Cávado-Lima, Tejo-Mondego and Combined Cycles) and the strategic environmental management system (with a more recent certification) that manages the company's strategic plans, environmental information, and environmental performance.
