EDP celebrates World Day for Safety and Health at Work
April 28 is the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, For EDP, and in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 8) for the Promotion of Decent Work and Economic Growth, this area is seen as a tool to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
Throughout the year, EDP will hold several initiatives to improve occupational safety conditions, including training and awareness-raising actions, risk assessment and control measures, safety initiatives aimed at service providers, and a higher number of audits and inspections. In 2017 alone the company reported a 32% reduction in the number of accidents compared to the previous year.
For 2020, with regard to occupational safety and health, EDP commits to:
- Systematically reducing accident rates: achieving a frequency rate of 2 accidents per million hours worked, in accordance to the best industry practices (DJSI);
- Promoting the integration of occupational safety in corporate management: achieving 100% Safety certification (OHSAS 18.001 or ISO 45.001:2018) in Group companies whose activities are considered critical in safety matters, due to the inherent risk of the activity, the number of workers, or because they provide essential services to other Group companies;
- Improving the preventive management of the supply chain: achieving 100% Security certification for suppliers with an impact (those that are deemed critical in view of the security risks inherent to their services to EDP).
The EDP Group's Occupational Safety and Health Policy demonstrates our commitment to the continuous improvement of Occupational Health and Safety Management and attests to our conviction that a safe and healthy work environment is both a crucial factor for employee satisfaction and a critical element of operational results.
About the World Day for Safety and Health at Work
The first ceremony was held in 1996, in New York, at the United Nations, where a memorial was built to celebrate the memory of all those who lost their lives in work-related accidents or contracted illnesses related to their professional activity.
