EDP files appeal against the ERSE's decision

Thursday 10, December 2015

EDP Comercial was today notified of the ERSE's decision to impose a 7.5 million euro fine for infringements in the application of the social tariff and the Extraordinary Social Support to Energy Consumers (ASECE) and will file an appeal against this decision with the Competition, Regulation and Supervision Court.

EDP Comercial believes that there are no grounds for this decision by the Regulator. There are currently more than 90,000 EDP Group customers benefiting from social discounts, the Social Tariff and the ASECE and the estimated figure for the end of the year will be around 100,000 customers. With this number, the EDP Group is more than doubling the number of customers benefiting from these support mechanisms since the start of the year.

In the liberalized market, EDP Comercial has been the main promoter of the Social Tariff and of the ASECE in recent years, through several multi-media campaigns, through various channels and in direct communications to potential customers covered by the social discounts. There have also been public awareness campaigns, such as press conferences, and we intend to continue promoting the Social Tariff and the ASECE. Once we have analysed the decision in greater depth, we will provide additional information
