EDP headquarters wins Architecture Valmor Prize
The headquarters of the EDP Group in Lisbon is one of the winners of the 2017 edition of the Valmor and Municipal Architecture Prize. The award was presented to EDP (who commissioned the project) and the Aires Mateus office.
The Valmor Prize is awarded by the City Council and the Lisbon Architecture Triennial and aims to honor outstanding buildings that value and safeguard the city's heritage.
Located on Avenida 24 de Julho, EDP's headquarters has introduced contemporary architecture in Lisbon's riverside, articulating the hill and the river while playing with empty spaces and light. According to a representative of Aires Mateus, the building "seeks to attract people unto itself. Not only those who work there, but as an element of public space."
EDP e o António Mexia highlights "EDP's decisive contribution to the city's urban renewal" and the positive impact the building and its people have in the area where it is located.
Lisbon Mayor, Fernando Medina, says EDP's headquarters will certainly mark this era.
