EDP Open Sessions

EDP Open Sessions will give surf lessons to 200 children who are supported by charities

Friday 10, September 2021

Initiative for children, supported by 12 IPSS', starts tomorrow at Carcavelos' beach, but will be on the beaches of Peniche and Matosinhos throughout the month. EDP wants to encourage the practice of sports combined with social responsibility

September is synonymous with a return to school and extracurricular activities and, for many, this includes a return to surf lessons. EDP also marks the month of September with the 2nd edition of the EDP Open Sessions initiative, which offers surf lessons to more than 200 children from social solidarity institutions. An act that aims to offer these children a unique experience, helping them to break down barriers in face of the future.

During the next weekends of September, EDP will be at three beaches in the country – Carcavelos (11th and 12th), Porto (18th and 19th), and Peniche (25th and 26th), giving surf lessons to children supported by 12 Private Social Solidarity Institutions. In addition to surf lessons, they will also have the opportunity to try a yoga class and participate in painting workshops with João Cardoso, better known as Cardoz. The 25-year-old artist has already seen his work exhibited at the ARCO fair, in 2018 and 2019.

The EDP Open Sessions initiative will also have surf lessons for the public who visit these beaches and want to try the sport. There will be one class per day and registration can be made on-site, for the same day, or for the following day, depending on availability and maximum capacity.

The first day of this initiative will have the special participation of three of the five young surfers who are part of the EDP Surf For Tomorrow, a unique project to train a new generation of professional surfers, who are traveling the world with internships, and participating in junior championships on the main surfing stages in the world. This team, which has the best names in the sport in technical, physical, and psychological support, such as Tiago Pires (Saca) and José Seabra, will be at Carcavelos beach this Saturday, the 11th, giving surfing classes to the young participants, so that they too, through their example, can make a difference and inspire the children of these institutions for a better future.

This is not an unknown territory for EDP, which has been present in surfing for 11 years, offering surf lessons on several beaches in Portugal and supporting various competitions in this modality.
