The Group is in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for the third year running

EDP has achieved top position in the Utilities sector of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, the first time for a Portuguese company. For the third year running, EDP is in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the European Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index (DJSI Europe).

The company maintained a leading position in sustainable development practices and was considered Best in Class in the social dimension for the first time. In 2009, EDP was in first place in Europe and is now at the top of the Utilities sector worldwide.

EDP continues to be one of the best companies in the sector in the economic dimension. It once again had the top score in the criteria Price Risk Management and Scorecards and Measurement Systems, and for the first time was considered Best in Class in Codes of Conduct / Compliance / Corruption & Bribery.

EDP’s position in the environmental dimension represents an improvement in alignment with average practices in the industry and is the fruit of efforts in the area of biodiversity and environmental management and its climate change strategy. EDP received top score in the Biodiversity criterion.

In all 22 criteria, EDP has the top score in six and is Best in Class in four.

EDP’s inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes is recognition of its commitment to sustainable development and reflects a reinforcement of best corporate governance practices, a strategy of expanding renewable energies and using more efficient generation technologies, a permanent pledge to develop human resources and close ties to its stakeholders.

This inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes was achieved after a strict assessment process conducted by the SAM Group, which included a questionnaire with 113 questions that appraised the fundamental aspects of the three dimensions of sustainable development –  economic, environmental and social.
