Friday 19, April 2013

Since 2004, EDP implemented more than 4,000 Lean initiatives that resulted in productivity gains. With these initiatives, EDP received the highest award given by the Kaizen Institute.

EDP received the Kaizen Award in recognition of its success in applying the Lean methodology. The Kaizen work philosophy, which originated in Japan, was adopted by EDP in 2004 and has already yielded significant gains in productivity, while reducing costs and improving safety.

The 4,400 projects carried out involved the participation of more than 4,000 employees, which amounts to a third of the Group’s 12,000 permanent staff around the world.

EDP also received an honourable mention for its Lean EDPWay Programme in the category “Excellence in the Continuous Improvement System”.

The Kaizen Institute is one of the largest consulting firms in the world for the Lean/Kaizen methodology and has branches in 32 countries. In the 2nd annual Kaizen Lean Portugal Awards held this year, 70 companies were evaluated.
