Tuesday 21, July 2015

Schools from Vila do Conde, Bragança and Porto were distinguished in this project from EDP Universal Service to which 164 schools across the country applied.

Teams 'Twisters EPVC' from the Vila do Conde Professional School, 'Bazingas', from the Emídio Garcia Secondary School in Bragança and 'Green Team' from the Commerce Professional School of Porto are the big winners of the 2015 TWIST project. This project was launched by EDP Universal Services and is integrated within the scope of the PPEC - Plan for Promoting Efficiency in Energy Consumption 2013/2015.

These three schools were distinguished in the overall assessment of the initiative, adding up the scores of the activities of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd periods to the assessments of quarterly challenges and complementary actions that highlighted the commitment, creativity, originality and quality of these teams.

São João da Pesqueira Secondary School's team 'DouroPower' was also awarded an honorable mention for their dedication and commitment.

Project Twist - Your Energy Makes a Difference is an initiative to foster education and raise awareness on Energy Efficiency, Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development addressed to students and teachers at the secondary level from the 10th to the 12th grades.

Lourdes Soares from the Portuguese Environmental Association points out that the winners showed 'quality in sharing and involvement' as well as 'quality of work' and 'effort and commitment both within and outside the school', reaching out to the community.

This initiative aims to move towards what nowadays is becoming increasingly accepted; that teaching cannot be limited to formal education and that there is room for engaging broader dimensions of social and public awareness in teaching.

The goal of this project is allowing students to become central agents of change within their entire school community as well as their households. In addition to the overall winners of the year, the TWIST project also distinguishes those groups whose projects stand out in each term of the school year (see information at the end).
