EDP and Ibersol join forces to accelerate electric mobility in Portugal
Partnership will allow the installation of 90 fast charging points in the Ibersol Group restaurants, which represents brands such as Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. With this partnership, EDP Comercial exceeds the announced goal of 1,000 charging points that were planned until the end of this year.
EDP and the Ibersol Group joined forces to promote electric mobility in Portugal, an option chosen by more and more Portuguese. EDP Comercial will install 90 charging points in 45 company restaurants, one of the most important restaurant groups in the country. With this partnership, EDP Comercial once again sought to install public charging solutions in areas of easy access and high demand: the equipment will be installed in the Burger King, Pizza Hut and KFC restaurant car parks across the country, some of the brands represented in Portugal by the Ibersol Group.
The latest generation chargers, with power up to 90 kW, make it possible to charge three vehicles using direct and alternating current. The points will be connected to the public network MOBI.E, can be used by any electric mobility user and allow you to charge the equivalent of 100 kilometers in just 20 to 30 minutes. This way, Ibersol Group customers who use sustainable mobility are offered greater convenience and comfort.
With this partnership, EDP Comercial has already managed to surpass its goal for 2021: 1,000 charging points in the public network.
“With this partnership with the Ibersol Group, we mark another relevant milestone in our electric mobility journey. As part of our collaboration, we will not only be contributing with 90 new charging points in locations with high accessibility, but will also exceed our target for the end of the year this month, which demonstrates our commitment to the development of this sector, decisive for a cleaner future,” highlights Vera Pinto Pereira, president of EDP Comercial.
This is another step in a sustainability path that the Ibersol Group and EDP are doing together - EDP Comercial already guaranteed the supply of electricity and natural gas to all of the company's restaurants.
“Reducing the environmental impact of the Ibersol Group's activity is a constant concern. That is why, committed to a vision of a circular economy that promotes economic growth and a reduction in the consumption of resources, the Group has put in place several measures that allow the identification of solutions that support electric mobility,” says Alberto Teixeira, vice-president of the Ibersol Group.
The favorite of customers when it comes to public charging, EDP Comercial has already issued more than 27 thousand EDP Electric Mobility cards for use in the public MOBI.E network. Up to April 2021, the stations managed by the company have already been used more than 145 thousand times, which avoided 1,200 tons of CO2 emissions. We are also seeing growth in the private cargo sector, with the company's sales in the first quarter already exceeding last year's total by 60%.
The adoption carbon-free mobility options is crucial to tackle climate change and the rise in the average temperature of the planet. This is a concern that more and more Portuguese share: according to Associação dos Utilizadores de Veículos Elétricos (UVE), sales of electric vehicles represented more than 16% of total market sales and grew more than 4% in the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period in the previous year, unlike the sale of combustion vehicles, which dropped more than 35%.
