Gui Aly was the big winner of the 7th EDP Live Bands contest in Portugal
Sponsored by EDP, the competition had different editions in Portugal, Brazil and Spain, and gave more than 10,000 bands the opportunity to move from the garage to the stage.
Gui Aly secured a spot in the NOS Alive'21 lineup by winning the final of the 7th Portuguese edition of EDP Live Bands. The artist conquered the consensus of the jury and was chosen from among the five acts performing at Campo Pequeno last Saturday, October 10, in a show that was broadcast live on the EDP YouTube channel and had more than 3,700 views.
This year's big winner was a young artist who performed solo with his guitar and writes his own songs. Gui Aly writes and sings in English - a language he mastered when he was a young boy and in which he found the best way to express himself, making his voice his main instrument.
With this accolade, Gui Aly secured a spot in the lineups of NOS Alive'21 (Algés, Portugal) and Mad Cool Festival 2021 (Madrid, Spain). In addition to these two performances, he also won the opportunity to record an album with Sony Music (produced by Hélio Morais), produce a music video, and perform live in four FNAC showcases.
EDP Live Bands was a project that seeked new musical talent and gave emerging artists the opportunity to perform in big stages. The workshop that was attended by the finalists aimed to give them the necessary tools to prepare for their new professional life.
Overall, the various editions of the contest received submissions from more than 10,000 amateur bands, which were given the opportunity to take the leap from the garage to the stage. The number of submissions proved the growing relevance of the project in the cultural scene, and it should be noted that the quality of the bands increasead with each new edition.
